With as buggy as this junk is the FBI probably thinks Ubuntu and Linux are virus programs designed to destroy the internet and computers world wide. Can't blame them myself, this stuff is worse than anything Microsoft ever put out! there is nothing that works properly in it or with it!

Yet millions of normal everyday people, IT people, and government institutions manage to run their computers, servers, and data centers on it.

I have several servers running it myself - no crashes, no bugs, no issues. Maybe all of us are just lucky?

I use Windows and sell and service computers running it - and yeah, it works and I like it.  But I can tell you a truth: it's not without its bugs.

Funny, I've been running it for years now without an issue and the Microsoft OSes I replaced with my last two PC were crap.

Enough. Please.

This is an ubuntu support mailing list, not a personal blogs-spam and
rant list. End of thread please.

Re: FBI looking at open source sites!

used to be the bugs would crash the os win&Lin, but what's great now is
that they can exist, be dealt with, still run the os, avoid or replace
software, way fewer reboots, etc.

I run Ubuntu on old semprons and the share works super smooth and i back
up to it every day.  you haven't seen me here bc i don't have any issues
with it.  and when i can't update anymore, (bugs in the update app) i
just DL a new ver.  done.

All OS's have their share of bugs. They're all created by rather fallible
creatures ....... Humans. Also people have likes and dislikes and oft like
to hate things. Seems you may be in the last cat there. That it doesn't
live up to your expectations isn't gonna kill it. Some people just set
their expectations way too high. They're the ones who are seldom
happy with things. I for one have far less hassles with Ubuntu (Linux in
general) than with Windows and I've been with Windows since the
win3.1 incarnation. The other prob oft seen is people jumping in and
not knowing what they're doing and then blaming everything but their
selves . My own brother is like that. Everything should be this or that
way. He has a picture in his mind of a perfect world. He constantly
needs reminding that the perfect world is the minds fiction. It just does
not exist

Re the FBI looking at open source software it atually says "open source
webpages" which covers more than just the software. Likely they see
open source as a way of smuggling illegal softwares and such or
possibly looking at forcing compliance with certain legislations to cut
down on pirating. That letter really gives nothing away so any
conclusion from it is pure speculation

James

Although you didn't ask for a copy I'm sending to your email, too
because,..    ...well, just because.
------
Oh, hell, you had to start it, didn't you?

It's a great suggestion that we should point to the possibility of list
shut-down on all the email list pages. Community Council, could you
push that through quietly, please?

Nevertheless, it's also perfectly reasonable that there be a niceness
policy that applies to a list. Everyone on ubuntu-users should now be
absolutely clear that this is the case, and that users who can't
exercise the appropriate judgment aren't /really/ human and are not
welcome on this list and others at lists.ubuntu.com.

I would ask everyone on these lists to help new folks find their inner
censor, and help set the tone for all the conversations that are untold
here.  Otherwise the mailing list(s) will be shut down.
