Hi Liam Proven

Sorry. I wanted to reply to your last advice but have failed to find the method.

Thanks to you I have removed the duplicate entries. Then did a Software Updater that ended by offering the 18.04 upgrade.

The Upgrade ran smoothly for 2.5 hours and is working well now. Just looks a bit different of course.

I really hope this reply reaches you. Thanks again. Charles IRONS

No, those are not duplicates. The "-src" bit is significant. It means
the 1st line is for binary packages (i.e. compiled programs) and the
2nd line is for _source_ packages (the raw program code the binaries
are built from).

Those 3 _are_ duplicates.

The actual lines are the same, so those are all equivalent to each
other. You only need one line. It doesn't matter hugely which one(s)
you remove, but insert a # at the beginning of any one, save the file,
and try again.

Ditto -- those are duplicates and will cause the errors you are getting.

Note, the error messages you highlighted with  question marks in your
previous email does explicitly tell you which files and even which
line numbers contain the duplicates.

That was a bit of confusing post but on my second read-through I found
the relevant bit.

Very glad to hear it worked. Enjoy your updated OS!

Hello again Liam Proven

At last realised that maybe I can reply to the individual posting that is attached to the digest. Hope it works.

18.04 does require some learning that I do expect.

Almost all the messages on ubuntu-users are beyond my capabilities, so I will probably unsubscribe until I hit some snag again.

Grateful thanks again from this retired end user.

If you are asking questions here it is much better to not use the
digest, then you can just reply to any responses you get.  Only use
the digest if you are just looking and not intending to respond.
I have replied to yourself directly as well as the list in case you
have already de-registered.  Normally one would just reply to the
list.

Thanks Colin. I am still learning the ropes.
