Security Policy of backported software

In reference to the following thread

What happens to the security status of all the Backported software?
Does the Backporting team supply security fixes for backported versions
of the Gimp, etc, for the lifetime of your *ubuntu version?

Strictly speaking, backports officially does not guarantee any period or type of
support, which is why they are worded as  "unofficial updates" in software
sources manager. in reality, the backporters do address security issues in the
backports repo on a best-effort  basis and take care not to backport things that
tend to lead to security maintenance issues.
