Serious bug for Kubuntu Focus

Mike Mikowski
Hi Everyone:

Here is the show stopper bug that prevented us from using 19.10 on Kubuntu Focus. Simply put, the CPU runs hot and heavy all the time. Geekbench scores and other benchmarks tank (e.g. get cut in half!). It appears to affect all i7-9750H / i7-8750H processors based testing (extensive, but with only two laptop models). And it certainly appears to be a kernel governor issue.

Does anyone know how we might escalate this? Could anyone corroborate our findings and add to the ticket?  Currently, we have 12 laptops effected by this bug. I'd hate to see it migrate to 20.04LTS.  We want to upgrade the Kubuntu Focus laptop to that as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely, Mike

One small edit to that bug report is that that Galago Pro is not a v4 is is a v3.

Re: Serious bug for Kubuntu Focus

Mike Mikowski
Hi Arron:

Did you mean Oryx Pro?  Because that's the model with the i7-8750H / GTX1060, which is the first slimmer model.  I didn't try it on the prior version with 4 cores and the GTX 970 (I forget the CPU number at present).  The current model Oryx Pro is also susceptible to this issue.

Just let me know and I will update the ticket!

Sincerely, Mike

Re: Serious bug for Kubuntu Focus

Nope I mean the Galago Pro since the v4 has 10 gen processors.

Re: Serious bug for Kubuntu Focus

Walter Lapchynski
The unfortunate thing about this is that it's specific to a very limited
set of hardware, which makes it so that there are a limited number of
testers available. I, for one, I can't help. However, the Kernel Team
can. You can find them on Freenode IRC at #ubuntu-kernel or email
[hidden email].

If you want to go all-out, I would work on further trying to debug,
triage, and bisect the issue. You can find more about those on the
team's wiki page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel

A good start would be having a very clear description in the title and
having a summary of the problem right at the very top.

Good luck!

I haven't used my Galago Pro in years - it's ancient. Maybe misquoted and wrote Galago Pro when I meant Oryx Pro.  I will fix that up.  Thanks Aaron!
