Sfotware (app) for camcorder interface with xubuntu 16.04

MR ZenWiz
I have an HP 8740w notebook to which I would like to connect a
camcorder.  However, I can neither find any such app on the machine,
nor does google turn up anything remotely connected to a camcorder.
There are lots of webcam apps and screen capture apps, none of which
are what I want.

Thanks.

Look for "dv capture". I've used dvgrab and kino, both over firewire I
think. Haven't done it for two years though, so the tech may have moved
on.

What interfaces does the camcorder have that you could connect to the PC with?

Is the camcorder connection FireWire?  If so, Kino should be able to connect
to it and read a (raw) DV stream.  I presume you want to download (upload?)
video from the camcorder in order to edit it and produce a movie (eg a mp4
file or a DVD or something like that).

And do a search for "video4linux".  I think that will get the info you are
looking for.
