software-center was removed from Ubuntu 17.04 and later in favour of
gnome-software, so there's no longer a way to fix this; it's probably
only still installed on your system by accident after an upgrade.  I'd
suggest removing the software-center package so that its
apt-xapian-index plugin no longer gets in the way like this.

Thanks Colin, yes, it was an old 16.04LTS version
- 16.01+16.04.20160420 it's been removed
