Software Version:
Package: cups
Version: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1

I was hoping it might be a Brother. They have a very nice installer
script for Linux.

Oh, I see.
It’s not. Brother is not popular in my country’s market. 😂

Go and install hplip from
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip

I always do this for HP printers and it seems to fix most problems.

Seconded. HP's drivers and Linux support are good. Ubuntu does include
it, I think, but the HP website usually has a more recent version.

I have an HP LaserJet and use the hplip drivers as well.

I also have the hplip-doc package installed, and that package installs documentation that can be read in a browser by going to:-
/usr/share/doc/hplip-doc/index.html

HTH,
