Marius Nestor tells us that Canonical have just released updated kernels with fixes for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS addressing five security CVEs, with users advised to upgrade as soon as possible. This fix also affects Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS users who are using the HWE kernel.

=== Canonical Says Ubuntu 14.04 Extended Security Maintenance Begins April 25, 2019 ===

Marius Nestor writes that Canonical have announced Extended Security Maintenance support for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS that begins April 25, 2019. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, which was released April 17, 2014,  will reach EOL on April 30, 2019; people wanting to continue to use it and receive security updates can purchase the ESM package starting April 25. Otherwise Ubuntu 14.04 LTS users should upgrade to 16.04 LTS or 18.04 LTS. "The supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 14.04 is via Ubuntu 16.04."
