Upgrading 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS

John R. Sowden
I am trying up upgrade from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS.  I have the updater
set to only tell me about LTS upgrades.  No reference to 18.04.  Then I
changed the version upgrade notification to all versions.  No reference
to 1804.

What's a guy to do?

John, if you go here -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseNotes

and scroll down a bit you'll see

Upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Upgrades from 16.04 LTS will not be enabled until a few days after
18.04.1's release expected in late July.

The release of 18.04.1 was I believe this past Thursday.

I believe that it will not tell you about an lts upgrade until the first point release, which is due any second I believe, or may just have happened.  Wait for that then give it time to work through the system.

Other already pointed out that an upgrade from one to another LTS will
be available, if the first dot release is available for a few days. The
general idea of a LTS is to avoid over-hasty upgrades ;), however, you
could use the 'development release' option, if you dislike to wait.

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Btw. EOL of 16.04 is April 2021, so you hopefully balance pros and cons
of staying with 16.04 or upgrading to 18.04.

Thank you all.  I knew we were waiting for the dust to settle, but I
thought it would be by now.
