Hi all ,
have just managed to get a Kaiser Baas DVD maker to work,( installed mercurial) in Ubuntu 12.04 with TV Time, is there anyway I can save the played VHS from here and write to dvd? Some of my tapes are getting old. A friend tried to do it for me on Win7, (the kaiser baas device is his), but it will only do a black and white in Win7, have colour in TV Time here on Ubuntu. Many thanks in advance for any help. take care Winton -- ubuntu-users mailing list [hidden email] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users |

For instance, I'm sure I looked several times in the past but could not find a of DVD "Dune" - the version with Patrick Stewart and Sting, but it is now available. Also bought "Two Mules for Sister Sara" and "Chato's Land". For the few quid they cost it's not worth messing around trying to convert them yourself IMHO. Also, at long last, got a copy of "Back and Fourth" by Lindisfarne on a 2012 remastered CD. OTOH if they're tapes of personal material such as weddings and holidays, yes you need to get them converted. Consider though, is it worth the trouble of doing it yourself? Aren't there loads of specialist services that are set up to do this for a fixed fee who probably have higher spec. equipment than yours? Personally I've gone through this loop converting a few vinyl LPs to CD, including building my own RIAA pre-amp. They sound pretty damn good but it takes so much time that I gave up and bought CD copies mostly for a couple of quid apiece and used the time saved to go cycling, walking etc. Dave -- ubuntu-users mailing list [hidden email] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users |

Let's focus on getting the problem solved, rather than chit-chatting, especially when the chit-chat is tearing people down, instead of being constructive and building-people up.

As to why they arent' being cleaned up, that must be because the computer is not being shut down properly while guest user is logged in.. (power failure, computer is locking up, etc.) If you don't want someone to be able to use the computer without logging in properly, you'll have to disable the guest user login. Those "guest-*" users are created when you open a guest session. They are delete when log off from the guest session. So either you have that many guest sessions open at the moment or someone didn't properly log off from his/her guest sessions in the past. Check which /tmp/guest-* folders do exist, only those guest sessions are still active. For example, if your system is exporting filesystems via NFS (Network File System), then when a root user on an NFS client that is mounting your filesystem tries to access or create files on your exported filesystem, their UID will be mapped to 65534 (by default). This is just handy line in your /etc/passwd file so that if you run "ls" you'll see that username as "nobody" instead of the numeric "65534". It's harmless, please ignore. Although why it has a shell of /bin/sh instead of /bin/false or something similar, I'm not sure. Most certainly the account is locked (no valid password) anyway so it doesn't really matter I guess. -- ubuntu-users mailing list [hidden email] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users |
