how to use wireless dongle

Wade Smart-2
I have two  Thinkpads: W10 and Ubuntu 18.04.
The W10 uses a Edimax EW-7811UTC AC wireless dongle.
I downloaded and installed the driver for this device on 18.04
but ... how do I select the hardware to use? It shows up as
connected but when I click on wireless - there is not a way to
switch to either the device or use a different frequency.

Re: how to use wireless dongle

Wade Smart-2
The manufacturer used either dkms auto install or manual.
I kept looking through the syslog and finally found a line that said

Aug  7 13:08:12 kernel: [   27.527190] 8812au: loading out-of-tree
module taints kernel.
Aug  7 13:08:12 kernel: [   27.528737] 8812au: module verification
failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel

There were a few other lines that seemed to indicate though it had
been installed.
So, uninstalled it and then reinstalled after a reboot manually.
When I did so, under wireless, there is the option to use the dongle now.
